West Coast Wolf

I just saw an electronic billboard that said “Good Morning LA!”

I think someone needs to adjust their targeting settings.

Apparently fortune cookies are now passé in San Francisco, home of the fortune cookie. This is the second Chinese restaurant I’ve been to where they served watermelon slices instead.

A chunk of watermelon in a dish.

A group of us went to a sushi-making class as a team building exercise. It was great fun! I learned a lot about my co-workers, and also proper knife technique.

My first sushi roll!

A slightly misshapen log of rice and seaweed, perched proudly on a cutting board with some ingredients scattered artfully about.

“And now, the six-step method for making nigiri. The sushi master who taught me had an eight-step method, but he was the only person who could understand it.”

A slice of rice on a lump of fish.

Intermission: some sort of Chinese breakfast pancake, with mucilaginous root vegetable and bacon.

A plate holding a multicolored flat blob, with sauce squiggled over it.

And finally, toasted sushi!

Lit blowtorch being played over a piece of nigiri on a tray.
