West Coast Wolf

I haven’t posted anything here for a while because I’ve been busy with some things that aren’t very interesting to write about. I was unexpectedly laid off from Common Networks early last month, along with a considerable number of my co-workers. (Spirits have been surprisingly high considering the circumstances, and the group of us “Uncommoners” have arranged a chat group as well as several events.) As a result I’ve spent a considerable amount of time dealing with the resulting paperwork and emails, as well as reopening the job search that I finished in August.

After all of that, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve just accepted a position as a Software Engineer at Flexport, a startup focused on modernizing freight forwarding and global shipping logistics. Flexport was one of the other companies that I had an on-site interview with when I visited San Fransisco in July, and, while I eventually decided to go with Common, Flexport was equally interesting and I’m definitely looking forward to working with them. I’ll be working on their Finance Engineering team, doing things automating like purchase order generation and invoicing, and generally helping to build a faster and more efficient way for companies to get things from Point A to Point B.

I start with Flexport in January, and in the meantime I plan to spend the rest of December taking a break, working on some personal projects that I’ve been meaning to get to but haven’t had time for, and hopefully also getting a chance to do some touristy things before the novelty wears off. I’ll miss working with everyone at Common, but I’m keeping in touch with them all and I’m excited for this new opportunity.
